UPDATE, APRIL 2023 - The time has come, and we want to take a moment to recognize our staff's incredible efforts. Several staff members from our Office, all the way up to the City Manager, spent countless hours speaking to residents and surrounding community members, trying to spread the word on our fundraiser. We are delighted to say, it definitely paid off.
We want to thank each and every one of our residents that reached out and were able to donate to the complex fundraiser. We truly couldn't have done this without you. We also had several businesses that pooled together and generously donated to the fundraiser and we will make a conscious effort to ensure both are recognized in a special way.
In addition to the fundraising efforts, Roy City Corporation was awarded a grant for the astonishing amount of $647,781.00 from Weber County R.A.M.P.
This will match the funds put forth by the city and the fundraiser. After a long winter and what seems like an even longer wait for our residents, the remodel process has officially begun. We are taking this step-by-step and want to make sure each item is not only checked off the list but completed in an efficient and timely manner.
Thank you for your continued support, it means the world to us!
In spring of 2022, our pool was closed due to mechanical issues. The boiler that heats the water and the pool area,
began to leak and was beyond repair; resulting in the need for replacement. This replacement, as well as additional
repairs, are crucial to our complex functioning at full capacity.
At the council meeting on June 21, 2022, our residents spoke to the impact our facility has had on the community
for decades. We heard from elderly residents that feel overwhelmed at fast-paced corporate gyms. They come
by daily for strength training and water aerobics so they remain active. They've come to know our staff as family
and fear the lack of support elsewhere.
Each year, our community holds 4,000 plus annual memberships. On average, we have 15 swim lesson instructors
that provide 1,500 yearly swim lessons to children from ages 1-13. We firmly believe the lifesaving skills they teach,
single handedly contributes to keeping Utah's water related incidents well below national average.
We also host the Roy High Swim Team practices and meets. These students are actively engaged and want to see
our facility restored to full functionality. The swim team has been a pillar in many of their lives and has lead many
individuals to college, when they may not have had the drive prior.
We hope you will join us in the Recreation Complex Fundraiser. Our goal is $1,500,000 and we need your support!
Funding will go to a new boiler system, resurfacing the pool where rebar is exposed, updating the plumbing and
locker rooms, bringing our facility ADA compliant, and more.
