Sergeant Matthew Gwynn is a 16-year veteran of law enforcement. He has been with Roy City Police Department for 14-years, beginning his career as a Corrections Officer with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. Gwynn is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. He has obtained valuable investigative experience as a result of the time he spent as a Detective, as an Agent with the Northern Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and as a School Resource Officer.
Sgt. Gwynn was born and raised in Roy. He graduated from Roy High School and immediately entered the United States Marine Corps. Achieving the rank of Corporal he served in the Security Forces and Infantry. After receiving an Honorable Discharge Sgt. Gwynn eventually re-entered military service and enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve. He was assigned to the 419th Security Forces Squadron at Hill Air Force Base and was activated after the attacks of 9/11. During that enlistment he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was deployed in support of operations “Southern Watch”, “Noble Eagle”, and Enduring Freedom”.
Sgt. Gwynn continued his education at Weber State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and attended Northwestern University where he earned a Master’s of Art in Public Policy and Administration.”
