    Performs a variety of routine duties such as officiating and scorekeeping organized athletic events, recording the individual team scores, and completing other duties as assigned.

    Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor.


    Promotes and follows City’s mission statement, values, and expectations.
    Officiates (kindergarten-3rd grade) recreation programs (i.e., basketball, baseball, etc.) and monitors programs to assure rules, regulations and equipment are adequate and correct during specific recreational activities. (i.e., baseball, softball, basketball, flag football, etc.) Maintains scores during recreational activities.
    Communicates effectively with supervisors and public. Answers inquiries and provides information to the public.
    Monitors general activities of field/facility to assure safety. Reports safety concerns or problems to Site Supervisor. Provides general field/facility maintenance and cleaning.
    Assist the Recreation Department with various city events/activities.
    Performs related duties as required.


    1. Education and Experience
                    A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties.
                    B. Must attend and pass training class to become a certified official and scorekeeper.
                    C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.


    1. Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Working knowledge Some knowledge of scorekeeping or experience in recreational activities such as baseball, softball, basketball, football, etc. Basic math skills.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, young people, ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. 

    1. Special Qualifications

    15 years of age or older. Must be able to provide transportation to activity sites.

    1. Work Environment

    Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting and outside with various weather conditions. Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing and seeing.  Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist.  Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.  Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
