Fire Safety Tips
Here are
some suggestions to help prevent fires
and to expedite our response in times
of emergency:
* Do not
place discarded fireplace ashes in plastic
containers or cardboard boxes. Place them
outside in a metal container with a small
amount of water. Ashes hold heat for up
to 48 hours and can reignite when mixed
with combustible products.
* Use only recommended fuels in your fireplace.
* Remove the snow from all driveways and
sidewalks.
* If you have a fire hydrant on or near
your property, please keep it clear of
all snow.
* After a heavy snow storm, clear the
snow from all roof flues.
* If you have elderly neighbors, check
on them to see if they need help clearing
the snow from their property.
* When you see a fire truck, ambulance,
or other emergency vehicle, please pull
over to the right side of the road and
come to a complete stop until they pass.
* Keep your chimney clean. If you need
to clean your chimney, brushes are available
at Station #1, 5051 South 1900 West, to
be used for one day free of charge.
